Sometimes, caught up in the quest to explore new locations, I forget that wonderful images wait for me in my own back yard. I am lucky to live on the edge of the East Bay Regional Park system, where a string of parks shelter the biodiversity of the Bay Area. One fog shrouded early spring morning, I drove to the trailhead at the end of Redwood Road to see if I could capture the delicate mosses growing on the bay trees. The high fog helps this image to succeed. It forms a sort of giant "soft box" in the sky, opening up areas that would normally be in shadow to the soft morning light. The detail revealed gives the viewer so much to look at as the eye wanders around among the trees.
