Tenacious Pine - Zion National Park High Country

Tenacious Pine - Zion National Park High Country

I traveled to Zion the first week of November, 2010. I found this ponderosa pine tree in the high country of Zion. I loved the way that the shallow roots of this old tree have curled themselves in and around the rock. The vertical striations in the pine tree echo the horizontal fissures in the sandstone wall behind it. It made me think of music, with the tall tree as the treble clef directing the music created by the sandstone in the back. It is a symphony of ancient stone and wood.
