In November, 2011, I traveled to Maui for a week's vacation with my husband. I do most of my serious photography when I am totally alone and able to focus my creative attention on the world around me, but I always take my cameras along on any trip. We stayed at the Plantation Inn in Lahaina the first night and went for a stroll on Front Street. I was absolutely blown away when this sunset appeared. This is the exposure as I saw it that night. Later in the week, we visited a local photographer in his upcountry gallery. He, too, had seen this sunset but since he was tied to his shop, he could not get out to shoot it. In spite of a wonderful week in paradise and many camera exposures I never found an image to excel this one. I have learned to always be prepared for any moment. This time it was the first moment. You just never know when grandeur will appear.
